Mechanical Engineering – Virtual Career Fair
Wednesday, October 24th | 1:00pm – 4:00pm
MIT is participating in a series of virtual career fairs as part of the NACE STEM Coalition-- a coalition of university and colleges that have a significant population of science, technology, engineering, and math academic fields.
The Mechanical Engineering Virtual Fair will be Monday Oct 24 from 1-4pm. Details below on how to participate:
This STEM Coalition Virtual Career Fair connects you in real time with employers seeking to recruit talent from multiple STEM-focused universities. You'll connect with employers with open career opportunities nationwide, all from the comfort of your home, office, smartphone or tablet. Be sure to view employers’ booths! As an attendee, you have the ability to explore employers’ information and opportunities prior to the event. Choose which employers you want to interact with and apply for open positions before the event; then engage in one-on-one text-based conversations directly with a recruiter at those organizations. You can share your background, experience, resume and ask questions during your one-on-one conversation. Link to attend will appear one week. Check Careerbridge<https://candidate.gradleaders.com/MITGECD/Candidates/Login.aspx?pid=3624&workshopID=77933> for list of employers.
Engineering Career Fair Collaborative <https://ocs.fas.harvard.edu/engboutique> - November 14, 2018
Sponsored by the career offices of Harvard University, Boston University College of Engineering, Olin College, Tufts University, and MIT.
Meet representatives from small engineering firms across the area seeking engineering students for full-time and internship opportunities in innovative fields including robotics, energy, medical devices, and civil/environmental design. All levels of engineering students from the five sponsoring institutions are invited to attend. Registration is required as attendance is capped for each participating university. MIT students should register in Careerbridge<http://careerbridge.mit.edu/>.

Offer Letters, Non-Competes and NDAs: What do they Really Mean?
Monday, October 15th | 3:30 – 4:45pm | 2-142
This workshop will review and discuss the kinds of offer letters, noncompetition agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and invention assignment agreements that new employees are regularly asked to sign as they join companies. Using actual agreements, we will examine:
• The extent to which offer letters truly mean what they say, and whether and to what extent they are negotiable;
• Whether noncompetes are enforceable;
• The restrictions actually imposed by the typical NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and Invention Assignment Agreement,
• The special problems of planning to start your own company while still working.
The instructors were for many years practicing attorneys – the focus of this workshop is on realistic, practical concerns. No prior knowledge of the law is necessary. Registration Requested via Careerbridge<https://candidate.gradleaders.com/MITGECD/Candidates/Login.aspx?pid=3624&workshopID=78311>.
