Subject: Paul Gray Award for Public Service nominations due 3/26 [new faculty award]
Date: March 13, 2018 at 2:38:18 PM EDT
Dear colleagues,
The PKG Center is currently accepting nominations for the Priscilla King Gray Award for Public Service<http://awards.mit.edu/convocation/awards/priscilla-king-gray-awards-public-service>, presented annually to an undergraduate and a graduate student who are exceptionally dedicated to community engagement and creatively tackling pressing social and environmental issues through public service at MIT and around the world.
This year, the PKG Public Service Center has also created a new faculty award in honor of Paul Gray<http://awards.mit.edu/convocation/awards/paul-gray-award-public-service>, MIT’s 14th president who passed away late last year but left a remarkable legacy and imprint here at the Institute. As you may know, the PKG Center was recently renamed for Priscilla King Gray, Paul’s wife, and the two of them were early, steadfast, and critical champions of public service at MIT.
The Paul Gray Award for Public Service will recognize a member of the MIT faculty who exemplifies building a better world through his or her teaching, research, advising, and service. Faculty members may have:
* Taught innovative courses that creatively and effectively engage community expertise or address community-identified issues;
* Inspired and supported MIT students in their own service work through advising and mentoring;
* Addressed pressing social or environmental issues through his or her research; or
* Led or significantly contributed to service initiatives that respectfully engage with communities external to MIT.
This award will be presented for the first time at the 2018 MIT Awards Convocation on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
If you know of a member of the MIT faculty who exemplifies public service at MIT, please consider nominating them for this award. You can submit nominations here<http://awards.mit.edu/convocation/awards/paul-gray-award-public-service>. Your assistance in spreading the word— to students, staff, and faculty in your departments— about the Paul Gray Award for Public Service is also greatly appreciated.
Nominations for all awards are due by March 26, 2018. If you have any questions, please contact Halley Kamerkar kamerkar at mit.edu<mailto:kamerkar at mit.edu>.
Thank you!
Kate
