Subject: Summer internship in computational systems biology @ Mt Sinai in NYC
Date: February 5, 2018 at 7:29:06 PM EST
I'm an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai in New York. My lab focuses on developing comprehensive dynamical models of individual cells. I'd love to host 1-2 students in my lab this summer. Can you please forward this opportunity to your undergraduate students?
Despite the explosion of data, we do not understand the details of how phenotype arises from genotype. We are developing whole-cell computational models to comprehensively predict how cell behavior emerges from the molecular level. Our goal is to use whole-cell models to transform bioengineering and medicine into rigorous, quantitative disciplines. Our research is highly interdisciplinary, involving systems biology, genomics, bioinformatics, parallel simulation, and software engineering.
Project
The student will help develop a random whole-cell model generator. This will include aggregating and organizing data; designing, testing, and calibrating models; and developing software tools to enable researchers more comprehensive models. The candidate will also have opportunities to participate in group meetings and attend seminars. The candidate will work closely with Prof. Karr and our postdoctoral fellows.
Desired interests/skills
We're looking for team members with a strong interest and skills in systems and computational biology.
Dates and duration
The internship will be full-time for 10 weeks. The start and end dates are flexible. The internship can also be extended into the academic year.
Stipend
The stipend for the 10-week internship is $6,000.
Housing
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer housing.
How to apply
Please send a brief description of your interests and your CV to Jonathan Karr (karr at mssm.edu<mailto:karr at mssm.edu>) by February 23, 2018.
