Subject: 22.055/22.55 (Radiation Biophysics) - Seeking Your Help to Advertise to Students
I'm seeking your help in advertising 22.055/22.55 - Radiation Biophysics - this coming spring. Note that it will be taught physically at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) two days a week, with lots of on-site facility tours so students can actually see the subject matter in practice.
I thought of each of you since some students in courses 20, 8, and 7 may have considerable interest in this intersection of biology, physics, and engineering, in addition to your commitment to improving education here at MIT (through undergrad officers or NEET). Should you know of anyone else who may want to let their students know about this, please feel free to send this on.
Please see the subject description below, and feel free to pass on this email and my contact info to your students.
Cheers,
-Mike

22.055/22.55 – Radiation Biophysics (meets on Wednesday and Friday, 9:00-10.30am at MGH, Boston)
Learn about the effects of ionizing radiation on humans from two real-world professionals in the fields of Radiology and Radiation Protection. The course will discuss how radiation is created and measured, and how one evaluates its biological effects based on radiation type, dose and dose-rate. Effects at the molecular, cellular, organism, and population level will be examined. The course will include field trips to the radiology and radiation oncology departments of MGH. The course will also discuss how various regulatory bodies regulate the use of ionizing radiation in the face of gaps in our understanding of its health effects.
Instructors: Rajiv Gupta (Harvard Medical School), Daniele Giuffrida (Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation, Abu Dhabi, UAE)
