This January, the Department of Linguistics & Philosophy and the Media Lab are collaborating on a brand new course:
Workshop in Ethical Engineering (24.132)
From machine learning to biological machines and beyond, today’s technology is changing the world - but not always for the better. How can practitioners make sure that the things they build aren’t dangerous, biased, harmful, or unjust? This two-week, for-credit course will teach students to identify, address, and communicate about the ethical dimensions of their engineering work. The students will learn an ethics protocol for use within engineering practice in the first week, then apply it to a project of their own in the second week.
This is a 3-credit course. It will meet during IAP: 14-25 January, from 2-3:30pm.
