Dear Colleagues,
I am writing again to ask for your help publicizing DFY: Fun-Sized (2.s974/2.s790)<https://mit.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=88f983a0e3c2a43fb2a2eabd0&id=fdc34ae52d&e=9b7db3740d>, a subject I will be co-teaching with Prof. Maria Yang this IAP as a 3-unit follow-up to the original Designing the First-Year Experience at MIT course offered in Spring 2018<https://mit.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=88f983a0e3c2a43fb2a2eabd0&id=0dd7200010&e=9b7db3740d>.
As you probably know, the original class was such an important catalyst for change in the first year, and I want to continue to engage the students as we design further changes for the first year.
The course will be a two-week design challenge that asks students to imagine a first year at MIT that is characterized by a widespread love of learning. We’ll ask the students to think blue-sky and then design an action plan that would effectively test key features of their ideas through a class-wide experiment or smaller pilot program.
Along the way, they’ll learn about design, education, and the complex system that is MIT. Class be held from 2-5 pm 1/22-2/1. Optional office hours with free lunch for class participants will be held each day 12-2.
Students interested in taking the class should preregister for 2.s974 (UG) or 2.s790 (G). Please get in touch with Kate Weishaar ‘18<mailto:katew at mit.edu>, if you would like posters, bookmarks, and other materials or have further questions.
Sincerely,
- Ian
