Prehealth Advising – 2017 Fall Events

•Prehealth Orientation
Date: Wednesday, September 27th from 4:00 – 5:00 pm
Location: Bldg 4-153

Are you thinking of becoming a Doctor, Physician-Scientist (MD-PhD), Dentist, or exploring another career in healthcare?
Join MIT’s Prehealth Advising to begin mapping out your path towards a rewarding career as a physician or another healthcare provider.  Attendees will be learn about the various paths towards a career in medicine and how to increase your competitiveness for the medical and health professions application process.

Food will be served!

•Be the Best Future Physician You Can Be Series
Part I: Mindfulness with Ashley Norwood
Date: Monday, October 2nd from 3:00 – 4:00 pm
Location: Bldg 5-234

Ashley Norwood is a certified Wellness Coach, a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Practitioner and Yoga teacher. Ashley leads MBSR courses, group health and wellness coaching workshops and yoga classes for Harvard University, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, MIT Medical and Mount Auburn Hospital.

•Washington Univ. in St. Louis (WashU) – MD-PHD Program Info Session
Date: Thursday, October 5th from 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Bldg 66-144

Join Brian Sullivan, Executive Director of WashU's MD-PhD Program, for an information session on the benefits of completing your MD-PhD at WashU's premier center for clinical training and scientific research.  Students and alumni that are interested in pursuing a MD-PHD are encouraged to attend and learn about WashU's unique offerings, characteristics of an admitted student, and their application requirements.

•Prehealth Group Advising
Date: Wednesday, October 11th from 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Bldg 66-144

Do you have any questions for the prehealth office? Or just want to connect with your prehealth advisors a little more? Stop by our group advising session. Lunch will be served and the prehealth staff will be there to chat. This is a relaxed question and answer session. Come by and say hi. Come for 5 minutes or the whole hour!

•Duke Univ. School of Medicine Info Session
Date: Tuesday, October 17th from 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Bldg 1-190

Join Dr. Brenda Armstrong, Associate Dean of Medical Education, as she provides an overview of the medical school experience at Duke and profiles the characteristics of a successful medical school applicant.  Students and alumni considering medical school are encouraged to attend and learn about Duke’s unique offerings and application requirements.

•US Army Health Professions Scholarship Program for Medical & Dental School
Date: Tuesday, October 17th from 4:00 – 5:00 pm
Location: Bldg 2-190

Are interested in having 100% of your medical and dental tuition covered while being a part of the US Army health care team?
Join SGT Sim Sotith as he discusses the many benefits of being a Physician or Dentist while serving as an officer in the US Army Medical Department including:

Hear from Dr. Dennis Kim MD-PhD, the Chair of the Prehealth Advising Committee, discuss the premed and medical school experience, MIT’s committee letter process, and how to increase your competitiveness for the application cycle.  Dr. Dennis Kim is also MIT’s Ivan R. Cottrell Professor of Immunology and a graduate of Harvard Medical School.
