Subject: Cambridge Science Festival events - April 18th
Dear all
We're running some really exciting events at the Cambridge Science Festival<https://www.cambridgesciencefestival.org/> in Boston this April. They're free to attend and we'd love to see you there. Could you share these details with friends, colleagues and organizations that might be interested? We'll also be sharing on social media and tweeting using #cambscifest.
Getting the stats across, from bench to broadcast<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/getting-the-stats-across-from-bench-to-broadcast-registration-32852331207?aff=es2> - for early career researchers
April 18, 14.00-17.00 EDT
Come along to two interactive sessions for early career researchers about how to communicate statistics from your research to the public. Expert panelists from the worlds of journalism, research and mathematics will explore public misconceptions about statistics as well as offer examples of the best and worst statistical descriptions published in papers, press releases and public reports.
Numbers in the news, a public conversation with Dr Rebecca Goldin<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/numbers-in-the-news-registration-32851735425?aff=es2> - public event
April 18, 18.30-19.30 EDT
Statistics play a big role in helping us understand the world and are present in contexts as diverse as criminal justice, education, politics and health. Understanding them is vital.
With more than a decade of experience helping journalists to make sense of statistics, Dr Rebecca Goldin, Director of STATS and Professor of Mathematics at George Mason University, will cite statistical bloopers in the media, and share insights about how we can ask the right questions and demand numerical accuracy in the news.
Both events will be at The Broad Institute, 415 Main Street, Cambridge, Boston and are organized by Sense about Science and Sense About Science USA in collaboration with Cell Press.
Let me know if you need any more details and hope to see you there!
Best regards
Ana
