HI all!
I’m writing to let you know about a grass-roots initiative that has been in the works recently at MIT and is now going public. I want to make sure that you’re aware of it and urge you to consider participating in some form or other - even just dropping by when the day comes!
April 18 Day of Engagement/Day of Action
A group of MIT community members, including faculty, students, postdocs, and staff, are organizing a large-scale civic engagement and action event on April 18, devoted to the political, economic, and social challenges facing us today. This event will include lectures, town-hall sessions, film screenings, and workshops, and is open to all parts of the MIT and broader local community. (A similar event is taking place at Princeton University TODAY Monday, March 6, with dozens of sessions and hundreds of people intent on participating: https://dayofaction.princeton.edu<https://dayofaction.princeton.edu/>)
At MIT we have a core organizing team in place, spaces booked, and broader publicly stated support from dozens of faculty, students, postdocs, and staff. April 18 is a student holiday, but not a university holiday, so participation in this event does not require cancelling classes on the part of faculty or skipping classes on the part of students. We are now putting out a public call for participation:

If you support the aims of this event, please consider participating! There are so many cool things in the works. You can indicate your support by signing the form (there is an opt-out so your name doesn't need to appear publicly, but you can express support or volunteer to help).
And please spread the word!!!
best, Sally
