Subject: [Biopdaf] Mini-course on BioPharma Industry
Date: February 28, 2017 at 10:50:39 AM EST
Dear students and postdocs.
I write to bring to your attention a special opportunity to hear from an MIT alum about the business side of BioPharma. Sherry Kan will teach a one-time 6-hour course next Monday and Tuesday March 6 and 7. See information below. This material was well received by graduate students at Yale, and could be useful for those interested in trasitioning to the business side of BioPharma as well as those planning to do research in industry. Junior or senior undergraduates considering this career direction could also benefit.
Due to the last-minute nature of this opportunity, you must RSVP by Thusrday March 2 at noon if you would like to attend, by email to Betsey (betz at mit.edu<mailto:betz at mit.edu>). Please include your position/affiliation (e.g. year in training and lab). We will run the mini-course only if there is sufficient interest and availability among our trainees. If we are oversubscribed we will limit enrollment, with priority to grad students and postdocs.
Location TBA. Pizza dinner will be provided.
Best regards,
Amy Keating
Essentials of the BioPharma Industry
Part I: March 6th (5 - 8pm)
Part II: March 7th (5 - 8pm)
This series provides an introduction to the Biopharmaceutical industry and illustrates how a drug evolves from scientific research through clinical development to commercialization. The course is geared towards PhDs and Post-docs in the life sciences who are interested in the business of bioscience. Highlights include revenue forecasting and some of the strategic business decisions involved in bringing a drug to market.
The course will be taught by Sherry Kan, PhD, who is currently the Director of Corporate and R&D Strategy at a biotechnology company in New Haven, Connecticut, and was previously an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company working with biopharma and medical device companies. Sherry earned her PhD in molecular biology from Rockefeller University in 2011 and graduated from MIT with a BS in biology in 2004. After teaching this course to biomedical PhDs and Postdocs at Yale, she is excited to offer the series to the community at MIT.
