Dear students,

For those of you who have time, and if this makes sense for your spring schedule, the Institute is offering a course “Designing the First Year at MIT.”<http://news.mit.edu/2017/harnessing-meritocracy-of-great-ideas-mit-first-year-experience-1130> This is the first time in over 53 years that there will be a major overhaul of the MIT first year curriculum (last major change was in 1964). This is an incredible opportunity to participate in the curriculum change that will be taking place. Biology interfaces with almost every other major at MIT and the opportunity for biology students to have input to participate in the curriculum changes will be extremely useful and valuable for MIT students in the future.

Here are some comments from Vice-Chancellor Ian Waitz who is spear-heading this initiative. He says:

With peers and faculty from across the Institute, students will reimagine and redesign the MIT first year undergraduate experience; develop new skills in design, learning science, and communication; and present a final project report to senior administration. The subject was developed and will be taught by faculty from all five MIT Schools and is open to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students.
