We cordially invite you to a panel discussion entitled "The U.S. and the Global Economy: Views from Washington and Wall Street," which is being sponsored by the Undergraduate Economics Association.  Our panelists will be two prominent alums:  Chris Bae, Head of Trading and Quantitative Strategies for UBS Hedge Fund Solutions, and Gerald D. Cohen, appointee of President Obama, who served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Macroeconomic Analysis at the U.S. Treasury Department. The panel will be moderated by Prof. Jonathan Gruber.

Panelists’s bios:
Chris Bae is the Head of Trading and Quantitative Strategies for UBS Hedge Fund Solutions (HFS). Chris is primarily responsible for leading the HFS Research Team across Global Macro, Commodities, CTA, Statistical Arbitrage and Fixed Income Relative Value strategies. Before joining UBS in 2016, he was a Global Macro Portfolio Manager at BlueCrest Capital Management (2016). Prior to that, Chris worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch,  where he was Global Head of FX Trading, Global Head of Fixed Income Electronic Trading and Global Head of Currency Options Trading (2009-2015).  Chrisalso  worked at Goldman Sachs in Currency Options and Equity Derivatives Trading divisions. He served as a board member at both the New York Federal Reserve Foreign Exchange Committee and the Bank of England's Joint Standing Committee. Chris's career spans more than 18 years in investment industry. He earned his SB in Economics from MIT.
Gerald D. Cohen currently works as a consultant for Absolute Strategy Research, a UK-based Economics consultancy. Gerald is the former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Macroeconomic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Treasury under President Obama. He was responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and briefing senior staff on U.S. macroeconomic developments. He also took part in formulating and evaluating the impact of policy proposals on the U.S. economy,  and was part of the team that developed the semiannual Administration 10-year economic and financial forecasts.
Before joining the Department of Treasury in 2014, Gerald was a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution where his research focused on the intersection between financial markets and economic fundamentals. This research agenda followed from his almost ten year career managing the Global Macro Group of Ziff Brothers Investments, where Gerald and his team were responsible for analyzing global macroeconomic conditions and developing and implementing long-term investment strategies based on these analyses. Prior to that, Gerald worked at Merrill Lynch and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He holds a SB in Economics from MIT and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University. He is a  co-author of Political Cycles and the Macroeconomy with Alberto Alesina and Nouriel Roubini.
