Subject: Mentor high school student projects this summer!
(Deadline extended!) Apply to be a Junction mentor this summer by April 10, and help high schoolers develop awesome projects remotely throughout the summer and then on seven Sundays on campus. A stipend of $1000 is offered by ESP.
Do you want to spend part of your summer gaining teaching and mentoring experience and earn some money along the way?
Apply to be a mentor for one of ESP?s summer programs, Junction 2017!
Select 5-7 students to mentor based on independent study proposals they will design, then guide them as they execute and fine-tune them during seven Sundays on MIT?s campus (June 25, July 16-August 20).
Be on a close-knit team of diverse mentors!
Guide your students into the project of their passion. Example projects include:
reinventing the education system in California!
making an app!
discovering an unsolved problem in mathematics!
investigating the mysteries of protein structure!
anything, really?!
During the seven Sundays of Junction and before the program, mentors will:
work with the five to seven students they select from the application pool
help their students refine their independent study proposals
assist their students in completing independent study projects
create and teach short classes, some of which focus on building research and presentation skills and some of which emphasize pure learning
assist with the day-to-day running of the program
Mentors will also get to know each other and bond as a close team: activities for mentors will include dinners, outings, and a day-long retreat on April 30. Mentors will receive meals throughout Junction, a t-shirt, and a $1000 stipend. You can take a look at the 2015 Junction Journal here for examples of student projects.
How to Apply:
Applications are available here. Applications will close at 11:59 pm on April 10th, and we will send out interview invitations by April 12th. Job offers will be made by the end of April.
Other ways to be involved: We look forward to reading your applications, if you apply to be a mentor! If you have questions of any kind you can reach us at junction at mit.edu<mailto:junction at mit.edu>. However, please also note that we are also looking for helpers and volunteers for administrative tasks during the program. If you are unavailable to mentor but would like to be involved in other capacities, please let us know via e-mail as well.
Best,
Ahaan Rungta
Junction 2017 Director
