Research Assistant, Pacold Laboratory: A research assistant position is open from July 1st, in the newly established Pacold Laboratory at New York University Langone Medical Center. This position would ideally start over the summer in Cambridge, and transition to New York in late September or early October. We are interested in using chemical biology and biophysical techniques to understand the deranged metabolism of cancer cells, and to develop metabolic enzyme inhibitors that might serve as proof of concept for new therapeutics. A two year commitment is ideal, extensible to three years if needed, but one year candidates will be considered under exceptional circumstances.

The applicant should have a strong background in biochemistry with at least two years of experience of research in biochemistry of molecular biology at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, and background and experience in molecular biology techniques including Gibson assembly and cloning, protein chemistry techniques including protein expression and purification from E. coli, and enzymology, and strong written and oral communication skills. Motivation and work ethic are more important than fund of knowledge. The candidate will also have the opportunity to learn liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based metabolomics techniques; these are part of an exciting, rapidly advancing field that permits the direct measurement of small molecule metabolites from cell and tissue extracts.

The PI is a physician-scientist and will be happy to mentor candidates with interest in clinical medicine, basic research, or ideally both.

Please send a CV, a short statement describing your research skills, interests and career goals, and a list of three references to pacold at wi.mit.edu<mailto:pacold at wi.mit.edu>.
