Dear Undergraduates,

Hi! We’re Dante (Course 15 senior) and Alyssa (21E junior), and we’re excited to announce the launch of the Undergraduate Association’s new Academic Advisory Council. As the leaders of the AAC, we are reaching out to you to request your participation.

Our goal for the Academic Advisory Council is to represent every undergraduate department in student government. The council is a forum where academic or department-specific concerns can be voiced and addressed by the UA. We discuss issues that affect a variety of aspects in undergraduate academic life, including academic advising and preparing for and choosing careers after MIT. Right now we are working on an Institute-wide initiative to revitalize the undergraduate advising experience. Other topics we could address include improving the freshman year experience; conducting an undergraduate survey on departmental satisfaction; and considering how GIRs prepare students for various departments.

Your perspective on the MIT experience is unique, and we want to hear it. Joining the AAC is a great way to have your opinions heard and improve the undergraduate academic experience.
You can help the UA improve the undergraduate academic experience by joining the Academic Advisory Council. If you’d like to join, please fill out this form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1D1Zly1dB0friEfJkmMVMChvPst3OiJNQZiQwpGXbdMs/viewform?usp=send_form>, and don’t hesitate to reach out to us<mailto:ua-aac-chairs at mit.edu> if you have any questions in the interim. Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 11th at 7pm in the main UA office, and we’d love to see you there!

tl;dr: The UA Academic Advisory Council is a new committee that is working to improve undergraduate academic life. If you want your experiences and opinions to be heard, consider representing your department in the AAC.

We can’t wait to hear about your experiences at MIT and your ideas on how to improve undergraduate life. We’re sure you all have a lot to contribute, and we look forward to working with you!

Thanks,
Dante Delaney and Alyssa Smith
Co-chairs for the Academic Advisory Council
