Subject: research technician position
Date: September 8, 2015 at 3:19:47 PM EDT
I work for Deborah Hung, a faculty member at the Broad Institute and MGH, and we are looking to hire some new lab technicians. We have found that the MIT graduates that have come to work for us in the past are truly fantastic. I have a job posting that I was hoping you might be able to forward on to recently graduated undergraduates as well as current students in Biology. We are looking to hire someone who has recently graduated or plans to graduate in Dec. Please let me know whether this is possible or if you have any further questions. Many thanks for your help
Sincerely,
Anne Clatworthy, Ph.D.
Research Technician Position: Looking for a smart, independent recent or pending (Dec. ’15) MIT grad to fill a full-time laboratory technician position in the laboratory of Deborah Hung at the Broad Institute and MGH. The Hung lab uses chemical and classical genetics to identify small molecule tools as well as host and pathogen gene products that are important for infection in the hope of better understanding bacterial pathogenesis and exploring novel therapeutic alternatives to treat infection. The lab is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment where we use the latest technologies (next gen. sequencing, chemical screening, etc.) to explore Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Salmonella typhimurium pathogenesis.
Job Description: Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: molecular cloning and construction of plasmid vectors, bacterial strain construction, PCR, DNA and RNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, tissue culture, and microscopy. Responsibilities may also include ordering lab supplies, stocking reagents, and maintaining lab databases. Maintenance of a detailed lab notebook is required.
Training and skills: B.S. in Biology or related subject (awarded or pending) is required. Coursework in Microbial physiology, Immunology, and/or the Molecular basis of infectious disease is desired. Applicants with 1-2 years of undergraduate research experience are preferred. A 1.5-2 year full-time commitment is required.
We have a strong track record of technicians moving on to the top medical and graduate schools in the country. Please email Anne Clatworthy (clatwort at broadinstitute.org<mailto:clatwort at broadinstitute.org>) with your resume and cover letter if interested.
