Undergrads, Don’t forget to apply to go to COP21 by Wednesday!

Interested in attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris? Send your proposal by 10 am Wednesday, October 28?!

MITEI will support the attendance of one undergraduate student to COP21, the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris, France. Time is very short! We must receive your statement of interest by 10 am Wednesday, October 28 in order to consider your application for the MITEI student spot in the delegation. You must be a registered member of an officially admitted delegation in order to attend the meeting. The student selected will attend during Week 2 (Dec 6-11th).

Budget: MITEI will cover a maximum of $3500 for airfare, hotel, and meals for one MITEI student. The student can work with the staff at MITEI to purchase the flight and hotel, and be reimbursed for other incurred costs at the end of the conference, or get a travel advance.

To apply: Please send your current resume or CV and a one-page statement describing your interest in attending the meeting, including how participation will benefit you academically and/or professionally to agreaney at mit.edu<mailto:agreaney at mit.edu>. If you are selected to attend, you will need to provide the following information in order to register: citizenship, passport number, email address, and date of birth.

Report when you return: We are asking that the student selected coordinate with our MITEI Communications Team by periodically corresponding with MITEI. This can consist of tweeting, recorded ’news’ coverage, pictures, etc. Our communications team will work on this with you. Upon your return from the meeting, please plan to share insights gained from your experience with MITEI and the energy community at MIT via a brief written report and some other means, such as a talk to fellow energy- and climate-interested students, a brief write-up on the web, or other means (feel free to suggest other strategies in your statement of interest).

Conference dates: COP21 opens November 30 to December 11, 2015. There is an open spot for a student during the second week of the conference (December 6 - 11). Several MIT graduate students will be there that week, and we will connect you to them so that you can support each other while in attendance. In your application, please indicate your availability. An overview schedule is available at: https://unfccc.int/…/a…/pdf/provisional_agenda_for_cop21.pdf.

Note: To be eligible, students must have participated in the Energy UROP Program, Energy Studies Minor, FPOP Delta and be currently enrolled at MIT. If you’ve procrastinated on declaring for the minor, get your forms in and meet with an ESM advisor.
