MIT was the birth place of modern finance in the 1960s and its focus on evolving finance continues to this day. This past year alone saw some major developments. MIT launched the Bitcoin project – which provides students with Bitcoin to spend around the community. The Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship launched a finance initiative to spark innovations in finance throughout MIT. The MIT Sloan School of Management has created the Financial System 2.0 Forum to discuss the ever increasing role that technology is playing in the development of the finance system. As such, the goal of the MIT FinTech Conference is to bring together entrepreneurs, thought leaders, professionals and students to discuss the most innovative business models and ideas which are changing the face of finance as we know it.
