Health Policy Research Assistant, Summer Internship

The Mongan Institute for Health Policy at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) seeks a Research Assistant for health care policy research projects conducted by John Hsu, MD and Vicki Fung, PhD. This position is an excellent opportunity for those interested in gaining experience in the conduct of clinical and health policy research.

The responsibilities of the research assistant include but are not limited to the following activities:

  *   Creating and maintaining research datasets
  *   Performing quality checks and analyses of existing datasets
  *   Submitting applications to the Institutional Review Board under the supervision of the Principal Investigators
  *   Organizing and participating in study-related meetings
  *   Maintaining research-related files and regulatory materials
  *   Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and reports to funding agencies
  *   Assisting with the preparation of scientific abstracts, posters, and PowerPoint presentations
  *   Assisting with the preparation of grant applications
  *   Conducting literature reviews and managing bibliographic libraries
  *   Providing general administrative support for all research activities

The candidate must possess superior quantitative, organizational, administrative, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with office staff.
Additional skills and competencies include:

  *   Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as internet applications) and the ability to learn new computer applications when needed
  *   Basic knowledge of STATA, SAS or other related programming experience
  *   Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  *   Ability to keep multiple tasks and projects on track simultaneously
  *   Ability and willingness to learn new research and study-related skills
  *   Capacity to manage various aspects of data collection, data entry, and data management
  *   Interest in health policy and medicine


Prior coursework in health-related topics, health policy, economics, and/or statistical methods is preferred but not required.

Previous research experience is preferred but not required.
