Dear students,
A reminder that Goldwater Scholarship nominations are due Thursday, November 6th for the department prescreening process. Nomination materials need to include your CV and names of two faculty recommenders. The supporting statement from a faculty member should be sent directly to me. You do not need to write an essay for the department prescreening process. The student who is selected from the department will be contacted to write an essay.

Dear students -
The Biology department is soliciting nominations for the Barry M. Goldwater scholarship<http://www.act.org/goldwater/> from faculty for outstanding sophomores or juniors. This scholarship is intended for students of outstanding potential who intend to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering disciplines that contribute significantly to technological advances. To qualify, students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. It is expected that students will pursue an advanced degree. Students who plan to study medicine are eligible for a Goldwater scholarship only if they plan a research career.
The department will select one nomination from those received to send to the Dean of the School of Science. Two candidates from the School of Science will be selected for consideration by the Goldwater selection committee. If you would like to apply, please contact your advisor or UROP faculty supervisor. If your nomination is selected by the department to go forward to the Dean’s office, there will be additional nomination materials to complete.
The following information is due in the Biology Education office for the prescreening process by Thursday, November 6th:
* CV of candidate
* A supporting statement from a faculty member describing your attributes
* Names of two additional faculty recommenders. The additional recommendation letters are not required for the prescreening process.
* If citizenship is permanent resident, a copy of the student’s Permanent Resident Card and a letter of intent to become a U.S. Citizen
The supporting statement(s) from your faculty mentor or advisor should be sent directly to me. If you are planning to apply, please send your CV to me. You do not need to request an official MIT transcript; we will obtain a copy of your unofficial transcript.
Good luck and best wishes,
Janice
