Effective CVs for the Academic Job Search
Tuesday, Oct 14, 2:00-3:30pm
The CV is used for the academic job search and in some cases for PhDs seeking a research position in other settings. This workshop presented by Bob Dolan will cover the important elements of a CV, including strategies for how to showcase your particular knowledge and experiences effectively. We will also discuss some aspects of the academic job search – such as writing a research or teaching statement, or obtaining letters of recommendation. It’s helpful to bring a copy of your CV or a draft with you to refer to as we go through the material in the workshop. All GECD events are open to MIT undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and alumni. Advanced registration requested via CareerBridge: https://www.myinterfase.com/mit/student

LinkedIn Lab
Tuesday, Oct 14, 3:00-4:00pm
Registration required through CareerBridge: www.myinterfase.com/mit/students<http://www.myinterfase.com/mit/students>
Bring your laptop to explore the many ways LinkedIn can help you in your career exploration and job or internship search. We will begin with an overview of LinkedIn and some of the key areas of a complete LinkedIn profile. This will be followed by individual work on your profile, with Career Services staff available to answer your questions.
Required: Set up a free account at Linkedin.com<http://linkedin.com/> and begin to fill in your profile prior to the workshop. Bring a laptop to the workshop. Limited to 15 students.

Resumes for the YES Pile
Wednesday, Oct 15, 3:00-4:00pm
Can your resume survive a 15 second scan and still get into the YES pile? This workshop presented by Jake Livengood will discuss the strategies of effective messaging and how to be "on-point" with your written communication. Your resume is not an autobiography, but rather a list of relevant accomplishments that links your skills to the needs of the company. You’ll use these techniques in your lifelong career strategies. All GECD events are open to MIT undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and alumni. Advanced registration requested via CareerBridge: https://www.myinterfase.com/mit/student
