Technical Assistant to provide support in the study of aneuploidy in mice. The successful candidate will conduct experiments to study the effects of aneuploidy on mouse physiology. Responsibilities will also include maintaining of our mouse colonies. The position will also be responsible for preparing and sending strains, maintaining Material Transfer Agreements, and maintaining the chemical inventory.
It is essential that the candidate be comfortable working with mice. The position will provide colony management such as tailing and weaning, genetic assessment, and database management; provide technical assistance and support in the operating room; and assist with anesthesia and surgical preparation. Basic recombinant DNA and cloning techniques, protein isolation, and Western blotting are also important skills to have to conduct experiments.
Job Requirements: Requires a B.A. or B.S. in biological sciences or equivalent. Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques such as cloning and PCR is helpful. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are important qualifications for this position. Must be a well-organized, critical thinker who can work effectively in a dynamic and diverse laboratory setting. An awareness of the critical aspects of laboratory and chemical safety is expected, as is the ability to follow procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Start date: Immediately (part time possible until the end of the semester).
