Hi all,

Health Sciences and Technology is launching a new undergrad class. The goal is to design DIY "health construction kits", from which patients can build customized devices to manage their health. It'll be super hands on, and will include biology, mechE & EE concepts.

IAP is a shorter sampler version, and Spring is the full-on experience. See below and attached flyers for details!

SPRING 2015
HST.S49 MAKER LAB: Creating Technologies to Re-invent Health Care
Wed 9-10 Fri 9-11
The disparities in affordable healthcare technology are a growing part of increasing healthcare costs in the U.S. and around the world. We will use and design do-it-yourself medical technologies — creative biosensors and health construction kits — to create accessible, patient centered solutions. Students will learn affordable prototyping and design strategies for health and medicine that can be applied in the American healthcare system and in low resource settings. Successful projects will create patient-generated data devices as a learning model, and students will design affordable devices that are used by patients to manage their health. Using Construction Sets for Health as a strategy, we will explore the rich diversity of possibilities created when patients are empowered to design their own solutions. Hands-on weekly labs will include paper diagnostics, microcontroller applications, wearable sensors, mobile health app design and health kit architectures.
