Job Description:
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, MOLECULAR BIOLOGY OF OCEAN MICROBES, Civil and Environmental Engineering-Chisholm Laboratory, to join a multidisciplinary group studying the molecular ecology of the marine microorganism Prochlorococcus, the most abundant photosynthetic cell on the planet. The research team specializes in studying this microbe from the genome level to whole ocean scales using integrative systems biology approaches. The research will include analysis of ocean samples, including studies on newly discovered vesicles produced by ocean bacteria and maintaining chemostat cell cultures. Will maintain bacterial cultures; implement and maintain chemostat cell cultures; count, purify, and image vesicles; run and analyze flow cytometry samples; and work with postdoctoral scholars and graduate students on special research projects. Will also order consumable items and perform upkeep and maintain general organization of the lab.



Job Requirements:
REQUIRED: a B.S. in biology or related science field; some experimental research experience; demonstrated ability to work creatively and efficiently and to independently execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experiments; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and critical thinking skill; a high level of motivation; and the ability to multitask and work with others. Experience with microbial culturing and basic molecular biological techniques is desirable. Some weekend work may be required.
