> Passwords:
> If it’s the first time you’re using the system, use your MIT ID# as both your login and password.
> Create a new password under 'Change Password’ once you've entered the system. Passwords are case sensitive and up to twenty characters in length.
> If you have used the system before and have forgotten your password, please use the password retrieval tool on the login page.
> Bidding Basics: How to Slides can be found under the ‘Bidding Guidelines’ tab.
> Every student gets 1000 points each term to bid on classes.
> The bid point range for any subject is 0-1000 points.
> Bid now for both H1 and H2 classes and full term classes.
> Check that you have bid successfully by reviewing your work under ‘My Bids & Courses’.
> All bids are resolved simultaneously at the end of each Round. Round II bidding is not time sensitive.
> Successful bids become your pre-registration and will appear on your Registration Form.
> When finished bidding, completely log out of the system, especially if using a lab computer!
> Sectioned Classes:
> You have four choices when choosing a sectioned class - read them carefully.
> You may bid for only one section per class.
> The bidding system allows you to create a conflicting schedule; review your results carefully -- you may not have gained the section for which you bid.
> If you receive a section that you don't want, you can enter the section swap site, opening January 14
> Course Pre-Requisites & Restrictions:
> The system will not allow you to view courses restricted to students in other programs.
> Prerequisites: do not waste bid points if you don't have the necessary pre-reqs. Pre-requisites are listed in the MIT Course Bulletin, available on http://sloanbid.mit.edu. You may first want to email an instructor to discuss your particular situation.
> You can pre-register for some Sloan courses through WebSIS:
> · 15.037J, 15.053, 15.058, 15.075J, 15.279, 15.301, 15.310, 15.411, 15.412, 15.501, 15.516, 15.628, 15.668, and 15.812 you can sign up directly through WebSIS. It is not necessary to bid for these courses.
> · For all other Sloan courses, you must participate in the Sloan bidding system to pre-register.

> Round II, 9:00 a.m., Thursday, January 3 – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10
> Allocate all 1000 points during Round II bidding. You will get a fresh 1000 points for the Waitlist Round.
> Course capacity is listed as X/Y. X is the number of seats TAKEN and Y is the course capacity. Ex. 15.617 is 24/67, which means there are 24 seats TAKEN (or 43 seats AVAILABLE)
> Unsuccessful Round II bids do not create waitlist positions - you must bid toward the waitlist during the waitlist round.
> In Round II, you are still able to place a bid on a class with no open seats. If a seat becomes available through a drop, then the class will be open for bidding. When bidding on a closed class in Round II, your options are:
> Assign your bid points to that course now and complete your bidding (if the course never opens, your bid points will be lost, but you will get a new 1000 points for the waitlist round)
> Assign your bid points now but check back a few hours before the round closes and reallocate your points based on the status of the class
>
> Section Swap Round, (Round II Results available) 9:00 a.m., Monday, January 14 – 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 21
> Swaps
> Use this round if you have successfully gained a seat in a sectioned Sloan class during bidding but would now like to switch sections.
> The system will check regularly for a match to your swap.
> You will be notified via email if a swap is conducted. No further paperwork is necessary.
> If your request is not accommodated by the conclusion of the round, you should speak directly to the faculty member/TA when classes begin in February.
>
> Waitlist Round, 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 23 – 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30
> Waitlists
> Use this round if you did not successfully gain a seat in a course through Round II bidding and want to be placed on the waitlist.
> A list of closed classes will be posted on the Sloanbid website under ‘Course Information Resources’.
> ** All students will receive an additional 1000 points in the waitlist round exclusively for Waitlist bidding.
> Courses filling in Round II will only have waitlist bidding during the Waitlist round.
> A Closed Course is any courses that has 10 or fewer seats available after Round II bidding.
> Waitlists are bid upon competitively, using the same criteria as bidding: levels of prioritization and points bid.
> The instructor or TA will email you if a seat becomes available in a waitlisted class. You must then complete an Add Form with faculty signature to formally register for the course.
> There is no guarantee that seats will become available or that an instructor will choose to use a waitlist.
