What is BrainTrust?
MIT BrainTrust is a student-run service organization that focuses on providing support for people affected by neurological disorders and brain injuries. BrainTrust gives MIT students the chance to connect with patients through activities such as sailing, picnics, and museum trips. BrainTrust also hosts biannual lectures on current issues in neuroscience.

By joining BrainTrust’s exec board, you will gain the opportunity to bond with survivors with brain disorders, learn more about the brain, help plan events for survivors and lectures for MIT students, become an active leader on campus, and have fun!

Exec Membership Requirements:
-Committees meet every other week
-General body meetings held on the off-week
-Attend 4 events (lectures or social events)
-Attend 4/6 general body meetings
-Attend 5/6 committee meetings
Position Descriptions
Cabinet
Historian
* Takes minutes at the general body meetings and sends them out to braintrust-exec and braintrust-interest mailing lists.
* Takes attendance at the general body meetings and club events and sends it to the president.
* Communicates with other organizations of MIT, primarily the Association of Student Activities (ASA). Keeps track of administrative issues such as storage space and bulletin board space. Makes sure that someone attends any required ASA General Body Meetings.
* Ensures that institutional memory is not lost from year to year, communicating with former officers for their transitioning notes and maintaining the constitution and other club documents, including past flyers and funding applications.
* Keeps track of club’s history, such as past events held.
* Maintains biographies of survivors who would like to have them recorded.
Marketing Committee
Publicity Chair (2)
* Posts events on the MIT events calendar.
* Make and post fliers for events.
* Sends emails advertising events to relevant email lists (the BrainTrust lists, BCS lists, dorm lists, pre-med lists, etc.)
* Maintains and prints up-to-date information pamphlets for distribution at large events and recruitment events.
* Takes pictures at BrainTrust events and keeps an organized collection of these pictures, including when they were taken, what event they were taken at, and who is in them.
Recruitment Chair (2)
* In charge of contact with local support groups (BABIS, etc.), hospitals, and rehabilitation centers.
* Presents at Boston area support group meetings to spread awareness of BrainTrust.
* Distributes fliers to support groups, hospitals, and rehab centers.
Webmaster
* Keeps the website up-to-date, with respect to upcoming events, current members, club information, etc.
* Makes sure people know how to access and use the website.
Survivor Outreach Committee
Social Chair
* Comes up with creative ideas for social events – sets events and their dates at the beginning of each semester, communicates these to the survivor coordinater-administrative.
* Contacts any organizations we may be working with for events.
* In charge of social event logistics, including room reservations, food, and obtaining any other materials that may be required.
Survivor Coordinator - HR
* Screens students and survivors applying to be paired and assigns survivors to students.
* Periodically ensures that all assigned survivors are still actively participating in the club.
* Responds to patients/survivors requesting to become buddies.
Survivor Coordinator - Administrative
* Informs survivors about each BrainTrust event WELL AHEAD OF TIME via email.
* Keeps track of strikes when student members do not contact their survivors, contacts survivors if their student did not, determines whether a student’s survivor should be reassigned.
* Creates and mails out a calendar of events to survivors at the beginning of each semester.
Technology Chair
* Holds technology office hours every other week for survivors seeking tech help.
* Sets these hours at the beginning of the semester and communicates them to survivor and student members.
Student Outreach Committee
Lecture Coordinator
* Decides the topic for the lecture and survivor panel each semester (with input from the rest of the members).
* Finds speakers on the topic. Arranges a date and makes sure the speakers are informed of all logistical details.
* Buys small gifts for the speakers (e.g. MIT mugs).
* Writes thank you notes for the speakers.
Conference Coordinator
* Keeps the club informed about neuroscience conferences (both local and non-local) that members may want to attend.
* Organizes trips to these conferences if there is enough interest among members.
Fundraising Chair
* Plans fundraising events, which can include raising funds to support relevant organizations or for an activity the club needs funds (additional to those acquired from ASA) to pursue.
* In charge of fundraising logistics, including booth reservation, setting up shifts for working booth, and obtaining any additional materials that may be needed.
* Works with the Publicity Chair to advertise fundraisers.
