Dear Biology Majors,

As you may know already, registration is going online for Spring 2012. It's about time! Certainly, the new system will make the whole event of registration more flexible and streamlined for everyone: faculty, students, and administrative staff. In advance of the registration period, which opens January 30th, I want to point out some of the more salient changes to the way things have been done, and offer you some resources to guide you through the online procedures and that address your questions and concerns.

 * No More Registration Forms. Your advisor will review and approve your "subject selections" online, and submit his/her approval with a click as opposed to a signature on a paper form. Therefore, you will not need to bring any forms to Dupont on Reg Day, Feb 6th.

 * Access to Online Registration is through Websis, using your kerberos password and id.
 * You must choose your "subject selections" prior to your meeting with your advisor. If you have pre-registered, those subjects will appear already. You edit those selections at any point after the Registration period opens on January 30th. (see the attached manual for more complete instructions)
 * You are still required to meet with your advisor during the Registration period, ideally on or before Reg Day, February 6th, prior to the first day of classes on February 7th. Please contact your advisors office to set up an appointment at your earliest convenience. See the Biology Department website<https://biology.mit.edu/people> for faculty contact information.
    * Double-majors whose primary course is outside of Course 7 will have their subject selections approved by their primary course advisor, but are still expected to meet with their Course 7 advisor during the registration period
    * Course 6-7 will have their subject selections approved by their Course 6 advisor, but are still expected to meet with their Course 7 advisor during the registration period

 * The deadline for submission of subject selections is Friday, February 10th.

You are very strongly urged to go through the step-by-step manual and refer to the online registration a<http://web.mit.edu/registrar/reg/instructions/index.html>nd help pages<http://web.mit.edu/registrar/general/oreg/help/spring12.html> provided by the Office of the Registrar before Registration opens on January 30th. All major questions are therein addressed, but if you encounter any particular issues, please let me know or contact records at mit.edu<mailto:records at mit.edu>. On Registration Day, Registrar’s Office staff will be available to assist with registration related matters in 5-119.
