6th BioNES, Friday, December 2, 2011, at Roger Williams University – Second Call

Featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Michael Berkman, Department of Political Science, Pennsylvania State University; Dr. Berkman is a specialist in studying patterns of acceptance of evolution in the United Sates and author of Evolution, Creationism, and the Battle to Control America's Classrooms

Dear Colleague,

Biology New England South (BioNES) has grown significantly, from a single sponsor in 2004 (the first unofficial meeting) to seven partner institutions in 2011. We would like to invite you and your laboratory to participate in the 6th BioNES meeting to take place at Roger Williams University (Rec Center Fieldhouse), Bristol, Rhode Island, on Friday, December 2nd, 2011. We are interested in holding a one-day networking gathering with professors and students involved in comprehensive graduate and undergraduate research programs. BioNES is a networking initiative among research universities andcolleges (more below).

Deadline for abstract submission November 18th at five PM

Faculty presentations: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Faculty are encouraged to discuss ongoing research programs in a 10-min oral presentation. The principal investigator should introduce the theoretical and scientific approach of the research program, its academic and scientific relevance and possible practical applications.

Student competition – BioNES Graduate Student / Undergraduate Student 2011 Awards: 2:30 – 3:30 PM

Graduate and undergraduate students conducting original research and sponsored by a principal investigator (sponsoring email to gpazymino at umassd.edu<mailto:gpazymino at umassd.edu> is required) are encouraged to participate in the BioNES Graduate Student or BioNES Undergraduate Student Awards (5-min oral presentations). These are very competitive, prestigious awards, which include certificate and monetary compensation.

Poster session (open to all participants): 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Students (graduate and undergraduate) and faculty are encouraged to submit abstracts for poster presentations. Awards will be given to significant graduate and undergraduate student contributions (certificates will be issued to awarded authors).

Advertising: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
