The Program for Evolutionary Dynamics<http://www.ped.fas.harvard.edu/> presents:

"Value exchange in early human societies.<http://www.ped.fas.harvard.edu/events/seminar/abstracts/9-14-11.html>"

by Ankur Mani<http://web.media.mit.edu/~amani/> (MIT) and Professor Alex "Sandy" Pentland<http://web.media.mit.edu/~sandy/> (MIT)

Abstract:

We examine the problems of value exchange and coordination under the conditions where agents have limited language abilities (e.g., signs and no recursion) and limited reasoning abilities (e.g., limited memory and no third order relationships). We find that surprisingly powerful group cooperation capabilities are not only possible but stable under these conditions. Interestingly some of the interaction characteristics predicted for these limited agents are typical of modern human performance.
