Human Resources Administrator
LABORATORY MANAGER, Biology, to provide technical support for a large
undergraduate molecular biology introductory lab (7.02). This includes
ordering and preparing all reagents, chemicals, stock solutions, and media
supplements; supervising the production of all solid agar growth plates for
a variety of bacterial, yeast, and C. elegans experiments; coordinating with
lab aides to assure glassware is in lab when needed; arranging use and
maintenance of autoclave; organizing and restocking benches and performing
general laboratory cleaning and maintenance; arranging for use and
maintenance of equipment such as UV boxes, thermocyclers, water baths,
incubators, etc.; performing general lab procedures including growth and
long-term maintenance of bacterial, yeast, and C. elegans strains; designing
and updating FileMaker Pro databases of strain collections, protocols, and
consumables; and serving as the lab safety representative to EHS office,
organizing and maintaining MSDS, and using the chemical database management
program (ChemTracker) to maintain chemical inventory. Will also provide
instructional support, including the daily organization, preparation, and
distribution of reagents used by students; aiding senior teaching staff in
the development and implementation of new experiments and teaching
materials; and assisting teaching staff with maintaining grade sheets,
archiving assignments, course communications, Xeroxing, and general
administrative duties.
REQUIREMENTS: a B.S. in chemistry, biology, or related field; a strong
background using molecular biology techniques; experience in a research lab;
strong organizational skills; and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
or similar word processing and spreadsheet software. Experience working with

This is a 10 month position, August 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011, renewable on a
yearly basis.
