Summary
Designs and performs bench level experiments and small independent research
projects to support scientific research objectives of a lab or group.
Analyzes experimental data, addresses methodological problems in
experimental protocols and results, and reports data to supervisor. Uses
discretion in prioritizing and organizing workflow and in optimizing
methodologies and results.
Responsibilities include:
* In consultation with the Principal Investigator or other project manager,
designs and conducts bench level experiments and small independent research
projects.
* Independently operates lab equipment and prepares and orders necessary
supply stocks. May work with vendors to address equipment, reagent, or
supply issues.
* Performs analysis of experimental results by identifying methodological
problems and helping to identify and implement modifications in research
protocols.
* Documents, compiles, and analyzes experimental data including high
throughput databases of microarray data. Reports data to supervisor in oral
and written reports.
* May assist Technical Associate or project manager with determining the
order of research processes that best support essential project goals.
* Operate and maintain laboratory equipment to complete investigations.
* Prepares, orders, and maintains stocks of necessary reagents, solutions
and supplies.
* May consult scientific literature as needed.
* Other tasks as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in biology or a field directly related to the work. Must
have 1-2 years of experience working in a research laboratory. (Master's
degree, at least one year of directly related, full time lab experience).
* Proficient in basic lab techniques and principles of molecular biology
required.
* A background in molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry desired.
* Knowledge of various scientific databases and publications preferred.
* Experience with computer programming and database management a plus.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational
skills required.
