Dear students -
In order to help you make important mid-term decisions concerning
your courses, and to help you get to know your advisor, the Biology
Department requires that you meet with your advisor at mid-term.
Please contact your biology faculty advisor to set up a meeting to
take place between Wednesday, November 7th and Wednesday, November
21st (drop date). When you contact your advisor, you should indicate
when you are available to meet. Meetings typically take 30 minutes,
but you can request more time if you feel it is necessary.
The purpose of this required meeting is to discuss your progress
during the semester and any other issues that you have that are
impacting your well-being and performance. This is also a good time
to discuss future plans with your advisor, and get the input you
would like. For example, you can take the time to find out more
about your advisor, including his or her research or career path. In
order to maximize the usefulness of the meeting, I would suggest that
you come to it prepared with questions.
At the end of the meeting both you and your advisor will sign a form
indicating that this meeting took place.
I hope that you find this meeting useful, and that it leads to better
communication and a closer relationship between you and your advisor.
Please remember that if you need to meet with your advisor at other
times during the semester, you are welcome to request this.
With best regards,
Janice
