CAMBRIDGE SCIENCE FESTIVAL

ISSUES CALL FOR ENTRIES

First In the Nation Science Festival Seeks MIT

Participants to Join the Celebration

(CAMBRIDGE, MA) The MIT Museum is proud to present the inaugural
Cambridge Science Festival, to be held April 21-29, 2007, the first
of its kind in the United States. Festival organizers are issuing a
Call for Entries to MIT students, faculty and staff to contribute
programming to the Festival this spring.

The Festival will be a celebration showcasing Cambridge as an
internationally recognized leader in science and technology. It will
offer a wide range of science and technology-related activities—
demonstrations, exhibitions, concerts, plays, poetry readings,
lectures and debates —over nine days, and in a variety of locations
throughout Cambridge. A multifaceted, multicultural event, the
Cambridge Science Festival will make science accessible, interactive
and fun, and will highlight the impact of science in everyone’s lives.

Festival organizers invite the MIT community to submit ideas and
proposals, based on this year’s Festival themes, for individual
events to be independently produced by the submitting group or
individual, with some support from the organizers. All student
projects will be coordinated by Sally Susnowitz through the Public
Service Center.

The overarching theme for the inaugural Cambridge Science Festival is
Science in the City. Four sub-themes—Innovations, Science & the
Arts, Energy & the Environment, and Science in Everyday Life— will
provide unity and structure to all Festival events.

Participants are asked to submit an application including a brief
description of their event, along with support materials related to
their project, by December 15, 2006. Events will be selected based
on audience appeal, technical feasibility, site availability and
funding. Participants will be notified by January 15, 2007.

For Festival guidelines and an application or for more information on
the Cambridge Science Festival, visit cambridgesciencefestival.org, call
3-6914 or contact Sally Susnowitz (susnowit at mit.edu) at 8-7344.
