Summer Fellowships in Genome Sciences and Policy
"Explorations in the Genome Sciences"

May 29th ? August 3rd 2007

Engage in revolutionary research at Duke University through the 10-week
Summer Fellowship Program, Explorations in the Genome Sciences,within  
the
interdisciplinary Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy. Gain an
appreciation of major questions in genome sciences, ethics and policy
through mentored research projects, lectures, discussions and a summer
genome retreat.

Areas of research include: computational, evolutionary, medical,
population, structural and/or functional genomics.  In addition,  
research
mentorships are available in genome ethics, law and policy as well as
popular culture and media.

Application and Eligibility
The Summer Fellowships in Genome Sciences and Policy are open to current
Freshman and Sophomore students from 4-year colleges and universities
having successfully completed (or currently enrolled in) at least one
biological sciences course. This program is supported primarily  
through an
REU grant from the National Science Foundation which requires that the
majority of participants be citizens or permanent residents of the  
United
States. Limited slots will be available for international Duke  
students. We
welcome applications from all students and encourage women and  
individuals
from minority groups to apply.  Students will be selected based on their
academic record, statement of interest and letter of recommendation  
from a
faculty member of their home academic institution.

Stipend and Housing
Student participants will be housed in Duke University residence
facilities, most likely the Central Campus Apartments, for the  
duration of
the program.  In addition to housing, students will receive a stipend of
$4,000.
