Subject: Fellowship to Study in Switzerland
The Friends of Switzerland & Catherine N. Stratton present:
The Julius A. Stratton Fellowship
Named for Julius Adams Stratton, President of MIT from 1959-1966, who
received his doctorate from ETH and maintained a strong connection to
Switzerland throughout his life. The Friends of Switzerland have
named a Laureate in his honor every year since 1966 who in turn names
a Fellow to receive the award money.
In 2005 Catherine N. Stratton, wife of the late Julius Adams
Stratton, was named the Stratton Laureate for her tireless and
enthusiastic support of the work of the Friends of Switzerland. She
welcomes MIT applicants from all fields and all levels of study to
apply for this Fellowship. The winner will receive a $4,000 stipend
plus travel to Switzerland on Swiss Air for research or an internship
during the summer of 2007. In honor of her late husband’s
association, preference will be given for projects associated with
Eidgenossiche Technische Hochschule (ETH), Zurich.
Applications must include:
-One page summary of academic background, interest and goals
-One page summary of research project including timeline
-Letter of reference from an MIT professor
The winner will be asked to give a brief presentation on the
experience for a Friends of Switzerland stammtisch luncheon in the
fall of 2007.
Proposals will be accepted until December 31, 2006. Finalists will
be invited to interview in January of 2007 and the winner will be
notified by February 1, 2007.
