We, the members of the Mendel Society at Boston College, would like
to invite you and any interested students from your institution to
our annual Bioethics Conference on March 19, 2005. The Mendel
Society is the pre-health organization on campus. We coordinate
programs throughout the year aimed at providing students interested
in science with information ranging from how to succeed at the
pre-medical and dental programs at Boston College, to advice from
medical and dental students when applying to these schools, to what
students can expect while attending medical or dental school.
The Bioethics Conference will bring together students from
neighboring universities at Boston College to listen to and
participate in discussions concerning the most relevent ethical
issues in today's society. The day will begin at 8:30 in Higgins
Hall with a continental breakfast followed by our keynote speaker,
Glenn McGee. The rest of the morning will be filled with topic rooms
covering stem cell research, pharmaceuticals, summer programs in
bioethics, and ethics in research. After lunch, speakers from around
New England will present on various topics including nursing,
environmental law, and perspectives on the stem cell debate. The
last segment will be student sections including nursing
presentations, topic papers from Providence College students, student
debates, and organized discussions on resolving the stem cell issue
in today's society. The day will conclude with some final thoughts
and the drawing of our raffle winners.
Tickets for this event will be sold at the door for $10 and include
admission to all of the speakers, breakfast, and lunch. Raffle
tickets will also be sold at the door for gift certificates to
Legal's Seafood, Cheescake Factory, Star Market, BC Bookstore, City
Sports, Boston Sports Club, a cash prize, a free MCAT course, and an
ipod. Please email me, Melanie McNally at mcnallmk at bc.edu, with an
approximate number of attending students and any questions you may
have.
Sincerely,
Melanie McNally
Bioethics Conference Coordinator
