Title: Research Assistant I/II

Research Assistant, Harvard Medical School: A research assistant
position is currently available studying proteins and protein
complexes responsible for the regulation, repair and replication of
DNA. The position, in the Biological Chemistry and Molecular
Pharmacology Department of Harvard Medical School, is part of a
multi-institutional research program investigating the mechanisms
maintaining genetic integrity. The position will focus on the
production of well-behaved proteins and protein complexes for
structure determination by x-ray crystallography and biochemical
assays requiring milligram amounts of protein. The research
assistant will construct novel vectors and develop new screens and
selection assays for highly expressed and soluble protein. The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop protein
expression systems using several bacterial strains and insect cell
lines. Additionally, the research assistant will clone various genes
with activity relating to DNA repair for the production of proteins
for structure/function assays. The position, at the interface of
molecular biology, protein biochemistry and structural biology, will
train the candidate in a host of experimental techniques and
applications at the forefront of biotechnology.

Required Education: Preferences for applicants with an undergraduate
degree in a field related to the biological or chemical sciences.
Prior professional or undergraduate experience is preferred but
candidates will be trained relevant techniques in an experienced
setting and encouraged to develop their ideas. Applicants seeking
the opportunity to contribute independently and intellectually in an
academic research environment are highly encouraged to apply.
