A clarification on the message below: 10.28 may be used as a CI-M course for the 7-A major. It does not substitute for the 24-unit project lab requirement for Course 7 majors. The project lab courses are 7.13, 7.16, 7.17, and 7.18.

>>Dear Student,
>>
>>I am pleased to let you know that course 10.28, Biological Engineering
>>Laboratory, a CI-M course (and officially recognized as a CI course in your
>>Department) will be offered this fall in 2 identical sections.
>>
>>The content of the course is based on the study of two industrial processes,
>>based on E. coli fermentation for recombinant collagen and culture of cancer
>>cells for vaccines. Computer-controlled bioreactors and sophisticated
>>instrumentation are at the core of the course.
>>
>>Details of the course (mission, syllabus, equipment, staff, feedback from the
>>2003 students, etc.) are provided with text and photographs at:
>>
>>Given the pre-reqs (see below), many of you are probably eligeable to take the
>>course. For those of you concerned with the engineering content, we will
>>provide lectures to introduce basic concepts so that students will be able to
>>catch up, whether they are from the School of Science or of Engineering.
>>
>>If you are interested in taking the course, I would appreciate it very much if
>>you could pre-register as soon as possible, as knowing the number of students,
>>early on, would help us make sure we have ample resources for the course.
>>PRE-REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW.
>>
>>Remember that the pre-requisites for the course are:
>>
>>* A lab course: either 5.310 OR 7.02 OR Permission of Instructor
>>
>>* A biochemistry course: either 7.05 OR 5.07 OR Permission of Instructor
>>
>>If you have any questions, please contact me.
>>
>>Yours,
>>
