Title: Mars 2020 Atmospheric Science: Main Results and Key Priorities Moving Forward
Abstract:
The Mars Environmental Monitoring Station (MEDA) is one of the seven science instruments onboard Perseverance. Selected by NASA to help prepare for future human exploration of Mars, MEDA contributes to this goal by: (1) validating global atmospheric models of the Martian environment with in-situ surface weather measurements, and (2) characterizing dust size and morphology to understand its diurnal and seasonal properties and potential effects on the operation of surface assets and human health. Complementing and expanding MEDA’s observations are other instruments like Supercam, Mastcam-Z, and the navigation cameras. They all are key contributors to the atmospheric science performed by the Mars 2020 mission.
