Dear Student Group Officers,

Please take note of the following announcements:

1. Update on Construction in the Infinite Corridor
2. Request a booth at the Activities Midway
3. ASA Recruitment Rules

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Update on Construction in the Infinite Corridor

The latest news is that the contractor will not start work in the Infinite
Corridor until August 2nd. We have been assured that the contractor will still
meet deadlines and be done before Orientation, but we will continue to ask for
updates and keep you apprised of the schedule.

Because construction in the Infinite will be starting later than expected, you
have more time to take down your posters. To repeat and clarify: all posters in
buildings 7, 3, 10, and 4, both on regular bulletin boards and in glass-covered
display cases, must be taken down before construction starts. All of those
spaces will be inaccessible during the construction. If someone from your group
is not on campus, ASA and CAC will take down posters starting next Thursday,
July 29, and hold them until the beginning of fall semester, so that someone
from your group can pick it up.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Request a booth at the Activities Midway

The ASA Activities Midway is Friday, September 3rd from 4-6:30pm in Johnson
Athletic Center.

To request a booth or performance time go to:
http://web.mit.edu/asa/publicity/midway.html and fill out the request form by
Friday, August 18th at 11:59pm.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. ASA Recruitment Rules

The ASA Recruitment Rules have been finalized and approved by the current ASA
Executive Board. These rules are very similar to the document that was
presented at the Spring ASA General Body Meeting. Please read these rules
carefully, follow them, and contact us at asa-exec at mit.edu with any questions
or for any clarifications.

The rules are posted at: http://web.mit.edu/asa/rules/recruitment-rules.html

Important points to note:
- disallowed advertising methods before the Midway include:
* mass emails to those not previously known to the group
* handing out flyers
* actively collecting or soliciting information from new students
* inviting freshmen to Facebook groups
* using extremely limited advertising spaces (such as drop poster spaces)
- any events with any recruitment component are also disallowed
- all Publicity Guideline violations (for example postering violations) will be
fined at triple the normal rate and fines, not warnings, may be given for first
offenses. Additional postering restrictions are also in place.
- exemptions must be sought at least two weeks in advance by email to
asa-exec at mit.edu

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please feel free to email asa-exec at mit.edu with any requests, questions, or
other inquiries.

Sincerely,
The ASA Executive Board
