Dear Prof. Bertschinger,
As we move toward the spring semester and think about launching our senior majors toward careers, I write to let you know about a new graduate teacher education program at Mount Holyoke that might be of interest to your Physics majors.
Mount Holyoke's accelerated coed Master of Arts in Teaching program allows aspiring middle and secondary school teachers to earn a master's degree and initial licensure in Physics in eleven months.
We are especially excited about our collaboration with Expeditionary Learning (EL), a project-based teaching model developed out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Outward Bound. EL has an extraordinary track record of transforming schools-and of training teachers to achieve exceptional results in the classroom. EL works with a network of 160 schools across the country, including the Springfield Renaissance School, an urban public middle and high school that has achieved 100% college acceptance among its first two graduating classes. Close to Mount Holyoke, the school is one of many innovative partner schools that will be accepting our M.A.T. students for their spring teaching practicum.
Please feel free to share this email with your Physics majors, and with any colleagues who might find this useful.
Details of the program can be found on our website<http://clicks.gotoextinguisher.com/trkr/?c=2033&g=2752&u=f491da998885b37b05516e9e3f2ebd34&p=ae0370864fc9df81cbdf7cd58419c9c3&t=1>. Please feel free to contact me directly with questions at lcarlisl at mtholyoke.edu<mailto:lcarlisl at mtholyoke.edu> or (413) 538-2189.
Thank you very much for your time.
