Subject: Summer Research Opportunities at NRL
Dear Professor Rajagopal,
I would appreciate it if you could forward this information to any bright physics majors that are interested in summer research opportunities.
The United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is seeking undergraduate or graduate students for summer positions at its facility in Washington, DC. NRL is the corporate research laboratory for the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps and has been conducting ground breaking scientific research and development for over 85 years.
Students will be working within the beam physics branch of the plasma physics division at NRL. Their work will be conducted as part of the Directed Energy (DE) Visiting Scholars program. The program will offer students the opportunity to participate in theoretical or experimental projects at NRL. Directed energy research topics include high power laser physics, laser propagation in the atmosphere, high intensity laser-matter interactions, microwave processing of optical materials, free electron lasers, underwater laser applications, and nonlinear optics.
Candidates must be pursuing a major in an appropriate technical discipline such as physics, engineering, chemistry, computer science, materials science, or applied mathematics. U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S. residency is also required. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an educational institution on at least a half time basis.
More information about the program can be obtained by clicking on the Naval Research Laboratory link at http://www.deps.org/DEPSpages/DEjobsummer.html. Interested students should submit their resumes to de-scholars at ppd.nrl.navy.mil<mailto:de-scholars at ppd.nrl.navy.mil> by no later than March 15.
Thank you,
Mike Helle
