Hi Nancy and Ann!

Can you forward the following to the course 6 and 8 job lists? Feel free to strip the top ASCII text if you think it will get mangled.

Thanks!

Octopart is seeking graduate and undergraduate technical summer interns for 2012 in New York City. We are an electronics parts search engine providing open access to engineering specifications and pricing info for tens of millions of components, with over 600k international engineers, students, inventors, and part purchasers as users.

Potential project areas include:

  - machine learning
  - datastore design
  - search engine development (see http://thriftdb.com)
  - distributed data processing
  - user interface design
  - internationalization
  - data visualization
  - new tools for engineers.

We are looking for people with at least a passing passion for electronics and the ability to get stuff done; those with relevant experience or the ability to learn very quickly will get the most out of the summer. We mostly code in Python but will try whatever tool is most appropriate for the job, and we contribute to FOSS projects as much as possible. All of the founders and engineers have backgrounds in physics, and we try to maintain a sense of curiosity and experimentation in our work.

You can apply formally at the resumator link below, or email me directly with questions (bryan at octopart.com<mailto:bryan at octopart.com>). There are a number of pre-packaged ideas to work on or you can propose your own project. Pay will be enough to cover reasonable New York City living expenses. We are also looking to hire a full time front-end developer with contemporary user interface experience.

Good luck with the end of term!
