Subject: Job Opportunity for University Students
To Whom it May Concern in the Department of Physics,
I am writing to share an exciting paid job opportunity for your graduate and
undergraduate students. I am from Shmoop, a new educational website for high
school and college students. A number of us (mostly Ph.D. and Masters
students from Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard,Yale and other strong
universities) have worked on this for the past couple of years. We opened
our doors on-line six months ago at www.shmoop.com in the areas of
Literature, Poetry, and US History. Due to the success in these subjects, we
are ready and excited to expand the site to include Science and Math.
We are now looking for part-time or full-time paid writers in the area of
Biology, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences and Economics to join our
current successful writing team. We are hoping you would be willing to post
our job listing to your list-servs or other places your students might be
looking for part-time or full-time jobs. We have pasted the job listing
below, and have also attached the job description and a flyer to this email.
We have felt fortunate to receive positive reviews from a number of groups,
including teachers, librarians, and students. For example:
. Shmoop was named "Best of the Internet" by PC Magazine (Jan. 2009)
and "Official Honoree" (Education Category) in the 2009 Webby Awards (Apr.
2009).
. "A website you can trust." - Librarians' Internet Index
http://lii.org/cs/lii/view/item/27395
. "Site of the Week." - eSchoolNews.
http://www.eschoolnews.com/news/site-of-the-week/current-site-of-the-week/in
dex.cfm?i=58214
. "I'm pretty fired up about this site." - Librarian and parent
http://jimmythegeek.livejournal.com/2430.html
. "As a teacher constantly trying to come up with ideas...this hits
home! I will be sharing this information with my students and coworkers so
all can learn and grow!" - High school teacher
. "I think Shmoop is a great concept, and it is exponentially better
than [other online study site], which deters kids from studying, as opposed
to Shmoop which helps encourage it more." - Student
We hope you will be willing to spread the word about the Shmoop writing
positions to your students. Also, if you have any ideas or feedback for us
about Shmoop, please let us know at http://www.shmoop.com/public/feedback.
We would love to hear your thoughts.
Finally, if you or any of your students have any questions about Shmoop or
the positions within math or science, feel free to write. Thank you for
your time and we hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes,
Ana McCullough
