Research Assistant Positions available with EMD Chemicals in Cambridge:

EMD Chemicals Inc. represents the North American affiliate of Merck
KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, for specialty chemicals. The Advanced
Technologies Innovation Laboratory in Cambridge (AT-IC) within the
organization is a recently instituted R&D centre where the focus is on
research involving materials for advanced optoelectronic applications
such as transistors, display technologies, solid state lighting,
photovoltaics etc.

Two positions of research assistants are currently open starting in
April 2009 for a period of six months with the possibility of a longer
continuation. These are temporary positions that may continue for
longer than six months contingent upon the scope of the project and
progress made. Applications are sought from well qualified candidates
that will work alongside and with direct supervision of the EMD
scientists in charge of the projects. The qualifications for the
positions are stated below.

Research Assistant-Chemical Sciences:
Requires at least a Master degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
with laboratory experience on preparation and characterization of
nanomaterials. Knowledge on colloidal chemistry, sol gel chemistry and
supercritical fluid methods is desirable.

Research Assistant-Physical Sciences:
Requires at least a Master degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering
with hands on experience on current voltage measurements on thin film
devices.  Conversant on  thin films, characterizing for thickness,
integrity etc.   Knowledge and experience in electrical measurements
on photovoltaic devices are highly desirable.

Other Qualifications:

Must be familiar with personal computers and general laboratory
equipment.  Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and
in writing.  Must be able to work well in a team environment and
conduct with a high level of integrity and professionalism. Good
laboratory practices and resourceful attitude are expected.

Remuneration:
Remunerations are competitive at the industry scale and commensurate
with qualifications/experiences.
