Good afternoon--

In order to deal with the onslaught of SPAM originating from
worm-infected machines all over, we finally made the move over to Mailman
for the WinPartners mailing list yesterday, something that has now been
long overdue.

With the new Mailman configuration, members of the list can post to it
unfettered. Normally, we'd like to keep the list open to outside posters
via moderation, so as to both control the flow of unsolicited e-mail and
let potentially useful postings coming from non-members reach the
subscribers. However, we have temporarily disabled postings from
non-members until at least the worst of this worm/SPAM hailstorm is over.
There is enough spurious traffic being generated such that attempting to
moderate it has become unreasonably demanding and has in fact doubled the
associated mail our administrators have been receiving. Until further
notice, postings to the list from non-members will be rejected.

If you have colleagues at MIT who'd like to mail the list, but for some
reason cannot/do not want to join, please feel free to proxy on their
behalf, or contact one of us administrators at
winpartners-owner@mit.edu.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we work out these bugs,
especially through these difficult times. We hope that Mailman will help
meet many of the needs we've had for some time.

We will be sure to keep you posted of further developments.

Regards,
Kerem, on behalf of WinPartners list administrators
