Lars,

I've been trying to come up with a strategy to accomplish the same goal on the various student sustainability sites I'm developing using Drupal. While I think generating comments and forum discussions is always valuable, that approach seems too roundabout for what you're trying to accomplish. I've been using the webform module on Drupal and have set permissions so that unregistered users can use it. (I could add a filter so that only mit.edu addresses are validated, but I haven't done that yet.) But webform is really configurable, and results can be exported as spreadsheet, or accessed as individual entries. This particular form has only been up a week and I've already had 10 or so entries from students coming to the site for the first time.

http://sustainability.mit.edu/join-sustainabilitymit

Cheers,

Ed Carlevale

Webmaster, Sustainability@MIT, MIT Energy Club

On Oct 14, 2009, at 2:38 PM, Lars Hasselblad Torres wrote:

Hi,

I'm working on a website project in which we're looking to create some
frictionless "hooks" that enable unauthenticated users (visitors to
the site who have not registered or logged in) to engage with content
in ways that a) harvest knowledge and b) incentivize registration.

We think one way to do this is enable open commenting on two kinds of
content:
- Blogs
- Discussion boards

I'm looking for some guidance around whether this is going to be worth
it in the long run.
