The administrators at Eastern Connecticut State University imagine the theatre department can find two qualified individuals to assist in the scene shop on a part time basis. I am not optimistic as I’m guessing any qualified person could
fine better paying full time work, but I write to you in hopes you folks would be willing to spread the word and that I am wrong about all this. (It wouldn’t be the first time.)

The specifics:

First we are looking for an MFA or other suitable terminal degree person to lead the Set Construction labs and teach another course as well. It would be renewable every semester for the right individual. Teaching pays $1526 per Faculty
Load Credit. 12 FLC’s a year is $18,312 a year.

Secondly we are looking for a 19 hour a week person to serve as a University Assistant in the scene shop. The UA rate is $23.10 an hour. 19 hours a week times 30 weeks in the academic year is $13,178. The person in this position would
ideally have stage carpentry/welding/rigging experience.

Were it the same person, there might be enough money to make it worth someone’s time. The two gigs together comes to $31,479 for just over 8 months of work. An MFA or other suitable terminal degree would be required to have both gigs.
Summers and school vacations off; no benefits. State of the art facility. (The no benefits part makes me sad, but it’s 2017 in Connecticut and I can’t fix that.)
