<p class="MsoNormal">The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)
Department of Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor of Scenic Design, to begin Fall 2014.
Qualifications: MFA in Scenic Design and proficiency in Vectorworks
and/or Auto CAD required. Three years of
undergraduate teaching and professional experience preferred. Secondary expertise in the areas of Scenic
Art and Properties highly desirable. The
successful candidate will teach classes in Scene Design, Scenic Art, and CAD
Drafting, will design scenery as part of the Department’s 4-show main stage
season, and will supervise Properties (design, acquisition, and building)
and/or Scenic Art for the Department’s shows.
Mentoring student designers, academic advising, service on Department
and University Committees, on-going external research/creative activity, and other
service to the Department is required. Excellent organizational, communication and
collaborative skills are essential. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Department has 100 majors and offers a BA in Design and
Production or Theatre Studies, and a BFA in Acting, all taught within its new
state-of-the-art facilities. Department
productions directed and designed by our internationally recognized faculty
have won numerous awards. UMBC is a
Carnegie Research University – High Activity institution, and is in close
proximity to theatres in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. that offer potential
design opportunities. UMBC is especially
