<div>More important, I think than revolving inventory is trying to stay relevant. A few years ago my inventory wasn't much different that yours. I've just scrimped and saved every year to pick up a few Source 4's each year in a plan designed to phase out
my 6 x 9's and 6 x 12's. I am almost done. I wanted to expose my student to moving lights and about five years ago bought six very cheap ones by Robe which have worked quite well in our black box. These movers are designed not for the theatre but for dance
clubs, but they do have a reasonable set of parameters. I wanted six so we could actually do something with them. I begged my dean for the money using the we-need-to-stay-relevant argument. For the same price I could have bought one MAC or VariLite which
just seemed silly. What can you do with just one moving light? My next hope is to get some LED fixtures so that I can expose my students to that technology as well, but I think cheap is not the way to go with an LED fixture. The newer 16 bit 5 –7 color
LED fixtures are just oh so much better than the last generation of instruments and current crop of cheap instruments. You need at least 10 – 12 to do a real wash or light a cyc and I don't begin to have that kind of money available to me. Having two of
them would at least would be good for color theory lessons, and maybe a special, but not much else.</div>
